Peachey Family Reunion, August 3 - 5, 2001

Camp Albryoca, Pocahontas, PA

Minutes of August 4 Business Meeting

Reunion Coordinator:  Titus Peachey                 Secretary:  Kristina Lefever

1.       Costs for this year’s reunion for each adult (13 and up) is $27.  This charge includes food and lodging, plus the $22 per family per year deposit (or $44 since the previous reunion).  Checks should be made to Titus and he will pay the Food Committee and the Camp.

2.       Titus asked for feedback on reserving the Camp for the first weekend in August in 2003.  He will advise the Pastor of our intent to return, but will ask if we would be able to cancel at a later date.  There was a brief discussion about whether or not we should look for another location with more luxurious accommodations (i.e., non-squeaky beds, cleaner cabins).  The consensus was that unless Urbane (or someone else) identifies a better place, we will be back at Camp Albryoca in 2003.

3.       Titus announced that Kristina and George had agreed to be the 2003 Reunion Coordinators.

4.       There was a discussion about the Food Committee for 2003.  A number of people expressed interest in having the 2001 Food Committee (Stanley, Judy, and Jesse) return for an encore presentation because of the wonderful (!) job they performed this year.  They graciously declined, but agreed to be a resource in 2003.  Virgil volunteered to be the junior chef, and Phyllis volunteered herself and Byron for the lead chef role.

5.       The possibility of having a Peachey Family web site was discussed.  Jesse volunteered to set up the site (since he already maintains 12 sites!).  Jesse suggested that this site serve several purposes:  1) share and express the creativity of Peachey family members; 2) house the stories, photos, etc., we feel are important to our family; and 3) maintain addresses, phone numbers, historical information, etc.  Kristina will assist Jesse as she can with the web site.  Jane agreed to be the collection point for stories, and will email her current Peachey Family Stories document to Jesse to be placed to the site for additions and updates.  Anna will email to Jesse the revised list of addresses, phone numbers, etc.; this can be placed on the web with links to email addresses.  Wayne will assist with getting photos on the site at some point.  Jesse indicated the cost to set up a web site with our own domain name (i.e., www.PeacheyFamily.com) would cost $35/year plus $20/month, or $275/year.  Emily mentioned that Geocity, and others, would provide web sites for free (but you have to put up with advertisements).  Since there was a concern for the annual cost, Jesse suggested an alternative: set up a List Serve list, which would also provide a basic web site, at little or no expense.  (However, in a later conversation with this writer, he indicated he may be able to set up a link on a web site he already has in operation, and so is already paying for.)  James mentioned that we may need to consider security, perhaps having a password-protected site.

6.       Titus indicated that Lois had expressed interest in having a monument to Wilhelm Bender.  Paul gave a quick version of the Wilhelm Bender story (Salome’s grandfather).  After some discussion, it was decided that Lois and Laban would broach the idea with the W. Bender family at their reunion in September to determine their interest in participating in the design and sharing the cost.  Ideas for this monument (statue, tree, marker, etc.) should be directed to Lois or Laban.

7.       Janet asked if anyone could explain where the name Peachey came from.  Paul indicated it was derived from the old-country name of Bitshe when they immigrated to this country.  Interestingly, another branch of the original family spells the name Beachey.

8.       Naomi, Larissa, and Stanley added to the Cousin Discussion from earlier in the day by sharing their thoughts on what it means to be a Peachey.

9.       The meeting ended with a showing of this year’s reunion pictures taken by Wayne Nisly.
